Field Hockey Program History

FH_Team_Ursinus_2017

Gettysburg field hockey has been brewing a recipe for success for six decades. Since taking the field as a varsity sport in 1948, the Bullets have won over 500 contests (517-392-62), claimed seven conference titles, made eight appearances in the national playoffs, and had 14 All-America selections. In addition, the field hockey team has the distinct honor of being the first Gettysburg varsity team to win a national title, claiming the 1980 Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) Division III Championship (team pictured below).

A stable coaching environment has been a big part of the Bullets' success as only four coaches have held the reigns of the program since its inception. All four coaches have reached 100 career wins, with Barb Jordan, the team's current head coach and the program's all-time wins leader, becoming the latest to reach the milestone, which she exceeded in 2010.

Since beginning Centennial Conference play in 1993, Gettysburg has enjoyed a tremendous amount of success, winning five championships - a mark that ranks second in conference history - in addition to 47 All-CC First Team honorees. The Bullets have advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament four times since joining the conference.
